Self care is important to be able to care for others

Selfcare for caregivers workshop

Facilitated by Sam Voolstra during the Lismore Women's Festival

Do you find it hard to really listen and be present with someone else’s needs when you are stressed and tired?

Are enjoying what you do, seeing the bigger picture and being creative compromised when you are running on low? 

That is why self care is so important to be able to care for others. 

Compassion fatigue, burn out, trauma exposure response/vicarious trauma are all results of not having the capacity anymore to come into the present moment.

Nourishing self care is more than an occasional spa treatment. It involves inquiry into your current work and life style, finding support, learning to say no or delegate, and to shed the day. 

Self care is also about finding some time, even as little as a few minutes, each day to check it with yourself, to center and bring yourself in the present moment. 

This gives you the resources to be your authentic self with others and the space to respond to what life brings your way, instead of react.  

In this workshop I like to support you to develop your individual self care plan. 

I will share with you tools and practices based on mindfulness, yoga, Somatic Experiencing and iRest.

iRest mindfulness meditation Lismore

Give yourself permission to rest: iRest meditation by donation

When was the last time you gave yourself permission to fully rest, to feel your body and listen to the soft whispers of your heart telling you what your real needs are? 

Spending some quiet time with you can be helpful to witness and work with negative thought patterns, to actively take in the good or to simply be.

iRest is a meditation practice that can provide you with tools to relax deeply, release stress, increase resiliency and improve your relationship with yourself and others.

Practicing iRest can make it easier to take in the good and welcome everything just as it is. It can give you the space to respond, instead of react, to whatever happens in your life.  

During the guided meditation you can lay down or sit in any way that is comfortable for you.
