Do you live in the Rainbow Region of the Northern Rivers?
Do you enjoy singing and/or dancing on a Friday night?
Have you been waiting for a kirtan celebration near you?
We invite you this autumn to become part of the Mantra Tribe Kirtan nights and join us to sing, dance, meditate and celebrate monthly in the community hall of Billen Cliffs Village at Larnook.
What is Kirtan?
Kirtan is the yoga of sound. A Kirtan concert is a bit different than other music concerts, as in a Kirtan you are part of the performance. You sit with the musicians and there is an invitation to sing with them in a simple call and response. You can also just sit and enjoy the sound.
Feel the mantras
Most of the kirtan songs are ancient sanskrit mantras, known to uplift and connect you with your heart. There is no need to understand the mantras intellectually, just feel their effect on your body and mind.
As kirtan is an Indian tradition most songs refer to something that is bigger than the individual self. Kirtan is not religious and encourages us to see what we all have in common instead of focussing on the differences. As our individual voices merge into one, a great sense of Oneness can be felt.
Dance to the rhythms
The Mantra Tribe kirtan nights will also offer some ecstatic rhythms and guidance to give your body permission to dance your dance. And when the music finally ends there will be the deep stillness of a quiet mind.
Great local musicians
Mantra Tribe kirtan leader is vocalist Jo Kelly, a Dolphin award winning songwriter from Kyogle and she is joined by Mal Knights (flute), Shivam Rath (Indian strings) and a percussionist. Together they will weave a dynamic and spiritually moving world music sound.
